10th International Sand Sculptures Festival

The International Sand Sculptures Festival (FIESA) is a mega exhibition of sand sculptures.

It has taken place since 2003, bringing thousand of visitors to Pêra. It is considered the biggest event in the world of its kind, as it uses 40 thousand tons of sand, which sculpted by 50 national and international artists every year, taking up 15.000m2 of construction area. Some of the sculptures can reach 12 metres high. The preparations are divided into two stages, during a total of 8 weeks: preparing the infrastructures, in which the part of the sand is molded, and the sculping of the sand by the artists. Each festival has a different subject, and this year’s will be dedicated to “Idols” .
